3.001.  What is the difference between an operational database and an analytical database?

 

An operational database (e.g. OLTP - On Line Transaction Processing) is used to manage dynamic bits of data, which users may modify when needed.  An analytical database on the other hand, is a read-only database which stores archived, historical data used for analysis.
