Pseudonym: fer040 CommentsA blog from Christopher Penn, an MBA Graduate from Boston University and the founder and executive of two marketing companies, explains Metcalfe's Law in simple terms. He defines it as a law that states that the "value of a network is proportional to the square of the number of connected users to the network." In other words, the more users the better. Penn explains that Metcalfe's Law was written for hardware and it assumes that nodes are directly connected. Recursion, the process of repeating items in a self similar way, occurs less often when the network is small because there are fewer nodes to repeat back a network update. Penn also goes on to explain that simply having a network is not enough, because that network can be without a value. For a network to be efficient and useful, it is essential that it has good content. However, good content is not enough. The size and power of a network contributes to the success. Pseudonym: searaw Commentsflashcards Pseudonym: SemperFi CommentsMexico's tellecommunications owned by the richest man in the world is now being reformed by the Mexican government in order to give others a chance. Pseudonym: vdelga36 CommentsTelecommunications, or telecom, is the transmission of signals over long distances. Early telecommunications transmissions used analog signals, which were transferred over copper wires. Today, telephone and cable companies still use these same lines, though most transmissions are now digital. For this reason, most new telecommunications wiring is done with cables that are optimized for digital communication, such as fiber-optic cables and digital phone lines. Since both analog and digital communications are based on electrical signals, transmitted data is received almost instantaneously, regardless of the distance. This allows people to quickly communicate with others across the street or across the globe. Fonts Commentsnetwork is a type of telecommunications network between data processing nodes for the purpose of data communications. It is a communications network in which the end points are computers. The interconnection of computers is accomplished with a variety of networking hardware. Two devices are said to be networked, when a process in one device is able to exchange information with a process in another device. Networks may be classified by various characteristics, such as the media used to transmit signals, the communications protocols used to organize network traffic, network scale, network topology, benefits, and organizational scope. The best known computer network is the Internet. Telecommunication is communication at a distance by technological means, particularly through electrical signals or electromagnetic waves. Early telecommunication technologies included visual signals, such as beacons, smoke signals, semaphore telegraphs, signal flags, and optical heliographs.[7] Other examples of pre-modern telecommunications include audio messages such as coded drumbeats, lung-blown horns, and loud whistles. Electrical and electromagnetic telecommunication technologies include telegraph, telephone, and teleprinter, networks, radio, microwave transmission, fiber optics, communications satellites and the Internet. Pseudonym: utepztmp9 CommentsThis web site, describes what VPN is and clearly explains in detail what does each letter stands for and how it work and through what type of medium. First it clearly states that VPN stands for Virtual Private Network and that is usually constructed by using the internet to access a private network, as the name says, such as a company's internal network. However, these network use special codes to help secure the internal information of those companies. The web site gives examples of why people aquire a VPN service when they have users that can access any type of network. For example, schools , they can restrict the websites which the students access using their wifi. Another example is the wifi access, if a company of an individual has wifi they need VPN service so that it is secure and not everyone can get access to their wifi or internal records. Pseudonym: cd26493 CommentsTelecommunication is communication at a distance by technological means, particularly through electrical signals or electromagnetic waves. Due to the many different technologies involved, the word is often used in a plural form, as telecommunications. Early telecommunication technologies included visual signals, such as beacons, smoke signals, semaphore telegraphs, signal flags, and optical heliographs. Other examples of pre-modern telecommunications include audio messages such as coded drumbeats, lung-blown horns, and loud whistles. Electrical and electromagnetic telecommunication technologies include telegraph, telephone, and teleprinter, networks, radio, microwave transmission, fiber optics, communications satellites and the Internet. The definition says that it is a network computer that have a small amount of locally stored programs that only needs to be operated on one server. By using one server the thin clients are less money than a rich client or fat client. Thin clients are also called slim or lean clients and deals with more sophisticated software that is stored on the server, while the opposite is true for fat or rich clients. Overall my understanding is more clear on what actually this term indicates. Pseudonym: Denise CommentsMotorola has served as the most used telecommunications device brand for many years. It's success has been attributed to officials keeping up the same contracts with the service providers. Officials have been accused of not using tax payer dollars wisely for only using Motorola contracts that are expensive. Because Motorola is the most used company, prices have been on the rise. A couple problems have been found with Motorola: high prices and device incompatibility with non-Motorola devices. Motorola has combated accusations of its incompatibility with innovative devices that can sustain being submerged in water or dropped without breaking. Even when emergency telecommunication devices are purchased for a lower price from competitors, somehow, money flows back to Motorola. It states that the value of a network is equal to the set number of compatible devices squared. Increasing the number of uses and devices into the world wide web increases the value and the number of connections that be obtained. Typically, LAN's are used for small businesses or small buildings. There are many different type of configurations for LAN's such as bus, star, and ring. Since the 1970's, however, the LAN most widely used is the bus system which consists of a line of computers all linked in a branch like structure. What is so amazing about LAN's is how they are programmed to not collide, inevitably there are occasional collisions, however, that is only when a network becomes overloaded. Normally, they wait for signals that allow them to "speak". Pseudonym: JimmiXS Comments |
